Stats for Data Science
An MAA mini-course at JMM 2020, Daniel Kaplan

Model-T statistics The canonical topics of college-level statistics reflect the needs, resources, and understanding of the era in which they were developed: 1830 to 1925. Methods were tailored to benchtop scientific investigation with very small amounts of data and calculation by hand.
Data science often involves large-n, large-p data being studied to support prediction and decision making. Inference is about model building and causality, not "significance."
