The CVC formed during the preparation of proposals for the 2012 “College’s science education” grant program sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). Six institutions (listed below)
created the CVC with the goal of providing workshops for faculty to enhance their capacity to use increasingly complex and large data sets in their research and classrooms.
Faculty from non-CVC institutions are welcome to participate as well.
Teaching Resources
- Data and Computing Fundamentals is a course covering most of the techniques that will be introduced at the CVC workshop.
Notes for the class are available here. The textbook Data Computing will be given to each workshop participant.
- A recent outgrowth of the CVC is the MAA/ASA/AMATYC project StatPREP
which provides support to statistics instructors at two-year colleges and elsewhere to introduce data-science techniques into their curriculum. The instructor development resources for StatPREP may be useful to CVC participants.
